1. HRT - The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph, is the latest technological advance in the diagnosis of Glaucoma. This system combines a laser scanning camera and specialized software that evaluates the optic nerve. The HRT may diagnose glaucoma years before symptoms become apparent to the patient. The HRT gives measurements of size, depth and shape of the optic nerve and is especially useful at detecting small changes over time. The HRT is an accurate way to follow Glaucoma and your doctor may order repeat exams periodically to check your progress.
2. Low Vision - Low vision exists when a person has poor or decreased vision, which impairs the person's ability to function as easily as he or she would like. The decrease in vision cannot be improved by surgical means, pharmacological treatment, conventional eyeglasses or contact lenses. Low vision patients can generally be helped to use their remaining vision through specialized optical and non-optical systems, which are prescribed during a low vision evaluation. Not all low vision patients are legally blind. As a matter of fact, most low vision patients have useful remaining vision. At EyeCare Specialties we can perform a complete Low Vision Evaluation and prescribe the right magnification system to maximize our low vision patient's sight and allow them to perform many of their normal daily activities.
